A Vision and a Voice."

As an Arts Educator, my goals are:
☆ to acknowledge the sovereignty of the individual within the universal ☆ to support in the establishment of clear and consistent personal and interpersonal boundaries ☆ to use the arts as a tool to challenge dominant narratives and empower civic awareness, grow environmental literacy (pun intended), foster collaborative connections, record history and pursue identity My masteries in visual arts have led me to a lifetime of diverse successes as a staff artist, educator and entrepreneur. Drawing from my professional experiences and using National and California Visual Arts Standards as a foundation, I enjoy crafting meaningful, inclusive art experiences for learners of all ages and backgrounds. I firmly believe that a solid arts education is an essential tool for social-emotional development and civic engagement. This ideology drives me to incorporate culturally responsive pedagogy encouraging students to explore personal truths, communities, justice and realities through the practice of artistic expression. By embedding visual literacy and reflective dialogue into instruction, I guide students in making thoughtful connections between their inner world and the world around them. Assessment is multifaceted, including self-reflection, peer critique, and portfolio development - we're exploring the process and reviewing the impact of the results in a supportive environment. I strive to model and instill the belief that creativity is an essential human capacity, commensurate with written languages, mathematics, or any subject or personal strength. Everyone deserves to feel confident in their creative vision and voice. Last updated July 2025 ©Valerie Hildreth Nielsen |
